Summer Beauty Picks To Bronze & Highlight Like A Goddess.

Recently I've been absolutely obsessed with creating super glowy, bronzed makeup looks for summer. Nothing looks better in the sunlight than when your cheeks are shimmering, your skin is warmed and *that highlight* is on point. So for today's post, I thought I'd share some of my absolute favourite products I love to use when creating a summer inspired makeup look.

I never used to be that into highlighter, mainly because I have oily skin, and in my opinion it just made me look greasy (nice mental image for you there!) but when I actually tried a touch of it on my cheekbones, I fell in love with the iridescent glamour, and couldn't help staring at myself in the mirror, twisting my head back and forward, watching as the sun caught the sparkles. And since then, I haven't been able to put the stuff down! I don't tend to wear it at work, as I usually only wear a more subtle makeup look, however give me a day off and I'll happily bathe in glitter.

When it comes to bronzer in the summertime, I like a nice shade that'll really warm up my complexion. Aside from contouring, adding a touch of bronzer onto the places where the sun would natural hit, creates a really healthy glow which is perfect for giving the illusion of having been in the Caribbean for six months. And who doesn't want to look like that?!

*Side Note: Seriously, how stunning are these flowers?! Massive shout out to my mum for having such gorgeous taste in floral arrangements!

Smashbox #SHAPEMATTERS Palette

I've spoken about this palette several times on my blog already and it's just so good, I had to mention it again. I bought it on a whim back in December as an early christmas present to myself, from myself (aren't they just the best?!) and at the time I was unsure of whether or not I'd use it. However it was on offer (I believed I paid £27.00 and it's currently £60.00) and it seemed too good of an opportunity to pass up. And boy, am I glad I did!

Aside from the incredibly pigmented selection of eyeshadows it also comes with two highlighters - one matte and one shimmer. Naturally I gravitated towards the shimmer shade which is such a beautiful champagne colour that sparkles in the sunlight like the best of them. I truly wish the camera could have picked up just how stunning this is IRL because the photos do not do it justice! Again, this is one for the cheekbones and the centre of the forehead. I haven't fully decided if it'll be coming to Greece with me - it's a big palette - but if I had to pick one thing from it, I'd select the highlighter for sure!

Urban Decay NAKED Illuminated

I've been making an active effort recently to really try and up my tanning game. I have to admit, it's something I'm usually pretty lacklustre about, just because I find it difficult to end up sans streaks and it's boring to wait for it to dry. However since I'm travelling to Greece on Monday, and really don't want to be that pasty Brit abroad I've been religiously using my holy grail Clarins Radiance Plus tanning oil on both my face and body to try and go golden. Thankfully, as I know I would, I've seen great results, which means that slightly peach toned highlighters like this one, are my thing right now.

Because it is such a big pan, I just sweep my Body Shop Face and Body brush around it a couple of times, before slighting swooshing (good word) it along my cheekbones. It's super shimmery and pretty for summertime, and definitely works well if you've got a bit of a tan. The peach tones are quite subtle so I wouldn't say it could replace a blush, but hey ho, if that's your thing, work it!

Urban Decay NAKED Ultra Nourishing lip gloss

I'm the first person to admit that I'm more of a lipstick girl. I just can't be dealing with the hair-stuck-to-lips syndrome that seems to happen to anyone who braves the glosses. However recently I've been rekindling my love of this Urban Decay lip gloss. It's super high shine, catches the light like nobodies business and has a really good staying power compared to a lot of glosses I've tried. Now, it is sticky. I'm just going to put that out there. You literally can't wear your hair down without half of it ending up coated in goo, but if you want a glamorous lip look, oozing with sophistication, then I really think you should give it a go. It's subtle enough to be worn in the daytime - by the beach or on a shopping trip - yet fabulous to wear in the evening time too.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer

Another firm favourite from The Body Shop. I've said it before and I'll say it again, The Body Shop does not get enough hype for their makeup range. I constantly see people posting about the skincare or the body butters for example, however it's rare to see their makeup making a feature. And in my opinion it's such a shame. We all know I'm a HUGE advocate for the All-In-One-Face-Base (regular readers be face palming so hard that I managed to bring it up again #sorrynotsorry) and this bronzer is one that I discovered around about the same time as that.

It's a lovely warm, orange toned bronzer that works really well to brighten up your complexion or as an all over bronze shade. I don't use it for contouring, it's not the right shade of brown unfortunately, but aside from that I really can't fault it. The shade range is great too, especially if you're on the paler side like me as I find that they look really natural unlike some bronzers. And at £13 it's really not a bank breaker, so what are you waiting for?!

Thank you guys so much for reading! Please feel free to leave a comment, it really makes my day!

  2. Love love this post, its so summery and I know its all about the highlighter/ bronzer, but those flowers really are on point, LOVE THEM! - I'm so rubbish with bronzer because I have such chubby cheeks I can't seem to ever pull it off haha, I don't really own a proper highlighter either but really need to jump on the bandwagon soon, I've tried highlighting with really light blush and felt a millions dollars though! I was twisting my head back and forth too! xxx

  3. Stunning pics and post! I've been loving the bronzed, glowey looks on beauty girls lately and I've decided to give it a go too...like you, I have oily skin so shied away from overloading my face with products. Plus, with my skin tone, it's difficult to find a palette that would actually show up on my skin.

But I recently bought the Rimmel Sculpting Palette and can't wait it give it a go :) I think starting off with a powder is a good idea as it's more matte. Your selection looks great, I just don't have the budget :( lol

  8. Oh my gosh the photography game in this post is real! Stunning photos, little lady. lol but makeup! I want to wear highlighter so bad, but I don't contour my face so I don't feel like I get the full effect. Or maybe I don't wear it right. I dunno. I love the look of it when I see it! Great post as always, babe. Keep it up! XOXO

    1. Ahh thank you so much, it really means a lot to me!! I don't think contour has to look OTT, like when I do it I use it quiete softly, just to enhance my natural cheekbones xx
