Black Opium - A Fragrance Review.

If you know anything about me, then you'll probably already be aware that I have a serious addiction to designer perfume. Be it Chanel, Marc Jacobs or Armani, my collection is pretty extensive.  I would go as far as to say that fragrance is my main vice in life. However I've been pretty good recently in that I have refrained from purchasing anything new, preferring to drown myself in Chance. Until now.

I've been tempted by YSL's Black Opium ever since it first came out and I got an initial sniff. Firstly I was completely overwhelmed at how lovely the scent was - deliciously sweet and sugary without being too OTT. However at £76 for a 90ml bottle I was somewhat reticent to part with my money.

If you've ever smelt the original Opium - the one that's been out for years and years and is popular with the... er mature generation - you might be questioning my sanity right now. Because let's be honest, that perfume is vile. Sorry YSL! But Black Opium is completely and utterly different in every way and I would highly suggest going and having a quick sniff.

I have the EDT version which essentially just means that the fragrance is a little lighter, a little softer - which is perfect for spring / summertime.

"The hedonistic black coffee note of the original Black Opium scent is transformed into an ultra-luminous green coffee accord with a heart of Jasmine Tea on a sensual base of sensual Patchouli, white woods and musk. Black Opium Eau de Toilette comes dressed in a glittering bottle of deepest pink diamond-dust finish for rock edge and modern glamour, with a radiant rose gold glass heart for soft femininity."

I think this perfume is great for anyone who enjoys sweeter scents such as Armani Si or Stella Mccartney Lily. If you prefer freshness like Marc Jacobs then unfortunately it might be a little too heavy. But as an evening scent to adorn just as the weather is cooling down, I cannot think of a better option.

If you're after a touch of luxury for your fragrance cabinet - look no further than YSL.

  1. Www I love this perfume, I remember I walked in Selfridges when I was in London like two years ago and went straight to the counter and bought it (obviously I didn't look at my bank account for a while afterwards haha) - Its such a strong scent and I love it. Only thing is, do you find it doesn't last long, like after a few hours of wearing it I find the smell has gone completely?? Oh well, its so lovely for the few hours it is on hahaha xxx

    1. Yes!! I thought that might just be because mine is an EDT and they tend to be less strong. So annoying as some of my fragrances literally last days! Xxx
