The Catty World Of Blogging.

I'm never really been one to comment on the negative sides of blogging. To be honest I try to rise above it because for the most part getting involved in petty drama is not good for you; both as the individual and the brand your blog represents. However after returning from my five month long blogging break a few weeks back, I came to find what had previously been such a welcoming and friendly environment, tearing each other apart. There were WhatsApp groups slamming people, others posting screenshots on Twitter for everyone to see and of course the infamous Sarah Ashcroft Cosmo article... But more on that in a bit.

I wanted to write this article because I like to think that I stand on a fairly neutral position. I've never been involved in blogger drama, I follow a lot of 'smaller' and 'larger' bloggers and no matter what category they fall into, only one thing matters for me: how hard they work to produce beautiful content. In my opinion it doesn't - and shouldn't - matter if you have 500 or 500,000 followers, your passion and enjoyment will always shine through. And it's pretty obvious when someone is only blogging for freebies.

And I think that's why the Sarah Ashcroft article infuriated me so much was because she placed herself on a pedestal. She presumed that because she has however many followers that that makes her better than us lowly peasants. Just because she's invited on press trips and has a few Instagram fans she's apparently blinded because she's alienating the very people she claims adore her. Bloggers, fashion lovers, people with passion. Starting a blog is hard. It took me about two years before I had the courage to do it because I didn't think I was good enough, so what harm could her catty words do for the future Zoella's of the world?

And don't get me started on the whole 'the market is saturated' comments. It's not. Because if you apply that logic then what's the point of me being in university? I study marketing, but surely there are enough advertisers and marketers out there already? Well clearly not because here I am planning to make my way into a (hopefully) feasible career. Blogging is a job - if that's the way you want to look at it (and clearly she does) - therefore there will always be windows of opportunity for new talent and those of us working our butts off trying to build ourself. So please, don't listen to the ignorant words of an arrogant girl who all but claims she invented the Instagram theme... Hmm I'll leave that one there.

And lastly I wanted to say that I think the blogging community needs to take a step back and look at itself. Stop voicing every inconvenience, ever time you believe someone has wronged you, on Twitter. Stop bitching about each other on WhatsApp. Stop 'calling people out'. Blogging is a competitive game, but clawing your way to the top is only going to result in scratching others. There are so many girls (and guys) out there who only have good things to say for each other and these are the people we should strive to be.

Okay rant over! I'm planning on doing a post soon about all my favourite blogger girlies as I think we all need to bring each other up, instead of tearing one another down.

So let me know in the comments below what you thought of Sarah's article? Were you a fan before, if so has this changed your opinion, or do you stand by her? I'd love to know your thoughts on such a controversial topic, and I'll be back with my usual content soon!
