Gee's Restaurant - Oxford.

Whilst at university I wouldn't say I eat out all that often and when I do it tends to be the usuals: Pizza Express, Zizzi, etc. Hardly worthy of a review because I think we all know the Nando's drill by now! But last Thursday, me and my best friend spent a day wandering  around Oxford in the sunshine, visiting the botanical gardens and dining in the delectable Gee's Restaurant

This was somewhere I'd been once before, with my parents and some of their friends and whilst my last visit was a couple of years back it's been somewhere that stuck in my mind as being a gorgeous spot for lunch. Housed in a beautiful glasshouse, with very retro, vintage decor it makes for some stunning photos, not to mention fab lighting for those food shots, am I right?!

In terms of pricing it can go one of two ways. They have a set lunch menu with one starter choice, two mains, and a dessert in which two courses costs £13.50. Personally I would say this is fantastic value for money because the mains on the a la carte lunch menu were pretty much all excess of £15. Saying that we were definitely lucky that the options on the set menu were pretty fantastic, because being pescatarian, it does limit your choices somewhat. I also feel like, with a restaurant like Gee's you pay for the environment. The service was impeccable, we were offered chilled water as soon as we sat down, fresh bread within minutes, and the place itself is perfect. They do also cater for dinner however in my opinion it works better as a lunch restaurant, the vibe is very chill and even on a weekday it was filled with a combination of families, couples and the odd business meeting.

- THE FOOD -

As part of the set menu option, we both opted for the vegetarian main and dessert. Thinking back I seem to recall the starter was a beetroot and ricotta salad and the other main was fish. Both of which are options I definitely would have enjoyed however when offered pesto pasta and sorbet, I'm not gonna say no! Especially since the pesto was so obviously homemade and the sorbet fresh and most likely made with actual strawberries. There was nothing artificial or pre prepared about either of these dishes which I think is why I loved them so much.

I would highly recommend Gee's Restaurant if you're ever in Oxford. It's about a twenty minute walk from the town centre and there's loads of pretty side streets to have a wander down if like us you accidentally arrive half an hour early for your booking. It's certainly somewhere I'd love to return to, to try the dinner menu or even for brunch.

All in all we had an amazing experience and would definitely love to return! Let me know in the comments if it's somewhere you'd consider visiting, or if you have an great food recommendations in the London or Oxford area!
